Precursor

The German Red Cross Decoration was first founded in 1922 and awarded to 1934 in two classes:

    German Red Cross Decoration First Class
    German Red Cross Decoration II. Class

A special form occupies the decorations of the Red Cross of the Free City of Danzig, which had geschafften a private German Red Cross Decoration to 1934. From 1934 to 1939 this Honour was slightly modified and received at its upper end a small black enameled swastika. Externally it differed only slightly from the previous German decorations of the Red Cross. At its upper end, however, the crown had been placed in the arms of Gdansk. His classification was:

    German Red Cross Decoration II. Class

1934, the classes were reorganized:

    German Red Cross Decoration First Class
    Cross of Merit of Honour of the German Red Cross
    Decoration of the Red Cross

In 1937, the design was changed and, inter alia, included a swastika and again reorganized the classes:
