The Takovo Cross (Serbian Cyrillic-Орден Таковског крста, religious Takovskog Krsta "Order of the Cross Takovoer" even religious Taková) was an Order of Merit of the Principality and the later Kingdom of Serbia. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Serbia in 1865 gave Prince Mihailo Obrenović the surviving participants of the liberation struggle a golden reminder cross. It had the shape of Takovo Order, even if he had not been so named.
At the beginning of the Serbian-Ottoman War in 1876 created the Prince Milan IV. For "merits before the enemy," an award. He maintained the cross above mentioned and founded on July 12, 1878, the name Takovo Medal two classes. These consisted of a gold and a silver cross. After the Order Act of 1883 of the Takovo Medal was awarded only for military merit.
As the Obrenović dynasty went down in 1903, the Order of the Cross of Takovo by the successor of Peter I of the House of Karađorđević was declared extinct. The newly established Karageorgevitch Medal took over its function.
Order Decoration
The religious character consists of a eight-pointed, white enamel and gold-bordered cross of St. John with small golden balls on the eight points and a golden cross of St. Andrew the cross bars are visible in the four corners of the cross.
There is a golden crown to the ring for the band is attached to the decoration. The round, two golden laurel branches surrounded agent sign pointing to red-enamelled basically the golden, intricate monogram of King MO (Milan Obrenovic). In the crown to them is a blue-enamelled frost in the form of bands containing the inscription in Serbian initials of the Order's motto for faith, Prince and Fatherland.
The back of the cross of the Order is smooth and quite golden. On average, the plate is raised embossed in gold Serbian coat of arms.
Ribbon of the Order
The ribbon is red with a white and blue edge strips on each side.
Grand Cross of the Order wore a sash over his shoulder, United officers and commanders around the neck and the Knights of the decoration in his buttonhole or on the left chest.
From the second highest classes of the Order of Takovo also a Medal star was worn on the chest except the cross of the Order.
