Signature of the engraver L. Bottée, then 1860, 1870.

On either side of a woman stand: a blacksmith before his anvil and hammer, and a scholar before his globe with his feet a square, a compass and books.

In front of this group stands a woman sitting with a child in her arms, with a distaff at her side.

Bail set in oak branches.

On the reverse, two bay leaves surrounded by the legend of the National Academy Dedication. Bail flat.
