Gold Medal of Merit of Saxe-Ernestine House Order 1871
The merit medals were the Saxony-Ernestine House Order connected as the lowest class.
This was jointly sponsored friend of Saxe-Meiningen by the Dukes Frederick of Saxe-Altenburg, Ernst of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Bernhard Erich on 25 March 1833.
This initially consisted of 4 classes (Grand Cross, Commander 1st and 2nd class and Knight).
Attached was a silver Cross of Merit and the Silver Medals of Merit.
While the number of first classes was limited were connected Merit Medals are awarded indefinitely.
The ceremony had to be approved by at least 2 ducal houses.
With the amendment of statutes on 13 December 1864 a gold medal of merit was donated.
The Knights were divided into 1st and 2nd class.
The merit medals were provided in the 3 duchies each with a portrait of Herschers on the front.
The backs were identical and showed the Distinguished Service Cross of the Order with the slogan - fideliter ET Constanter - (Loyal and resistant) as Randumschrift.
The first medals in Altenburg 1834-1871 showed Duke Frederick.
Under Duke Ernst 2 compression variants are known.
The 1 Variant 1871-1891 here shows the Duke dual whiskers.
Variant 2 1871-1908 shows him only with a whiskers in the foreground.
1871 belt buckles were donated 1870/1 with and without swords.
The stamp of the coin cut Prof. Ferdinand Helfricht.
After the accession of Duke Ernst II. The front pages were changed last time.
Round medal in silver with raised rim.
Above a soldered ordinary eyelet band ring.
Front:
At the edge of the inscription: - ERNST - DUKE - TO - Saxony - Altenburg -.
In the center the seeing to the left Portrait of the Duke of dual whiskers.
Under the neck portion of the small punch cutter - Helfricht F. -
Back:
At the edge of the inscription: - fideliter - ET - Constanter - below a 5-petalled rosette.
Centrally increases the representation of the back of Merit without signature ring.
(The medallion with wreath of oak leaves, inside the Saxon coat of arms with a diamond crown.)
